The Ovako Heat Treatment Guide enables the companys customers to calculate the mechanical properties of a selected steel after heat treatment. Ovako states that the tool will save users time and money by offering a digital alternative to physical testing.
Ovakos Heat Treatment Guide provides customers with a unique service to help choose the right steel for specific applications. By choosing a steel grade composition in the Guide, users will be able to predict how a steel of a specific composition will perform after heat treatment. Users can alter the steel compositions to investigate the impact of different alloying elements and then compare results by layering them in the resulting graphs.
The primary information provided by the Heat Treatment Guide is the hardness that can be achieved as a function of the cooling rate when the steel is quenched, which is presented as a CCT-diagram and a Jominy curve. Secondly, the tempering diagrams show how hardness and tensile strength vary as a function of the tempering temperature. A table also details the core hardness after quenching of bars in diameters ranging from 5 up to 500 mm using water, oil or air as the quenching medium, said Joakim Fagerlund, the developer of the Guide.
The Heat Treatment Guide is a development of the Ovako Steel Navigator, a digital platform created to help customers identify the best steel for their application. Ovako has developed the guide to be valid for most steel grades. The Ovako Heat Treatment Guide can be found at www.heattreatmentguide.com.
